About the County
This is a county that lies, for the most part, close to the ancient shores of the mighty Pannonian Sea, with its low, modest houses huddled together like frightened field mice. Yet, it is also a county that rises subtly toward the sky with its unassuming vertical lines.
This green-blue cradle of Croatia, comprising six cities and thirteen municipalities, stretches south of Zagreb. It is a region of partially marshy lowlands through which the rivers Sava, Kupa, Odra, Lonja, Glina, Česma, Ilova, and Una flow. It is framed by the gentle, forested slopes of the Vukomeričke Gorice, Moslavačka Gora, Petrova Gora, and Zrinska Gora, along with the hilly region of Banovina.
The tourist attractions of Sisak-Moslavina County, which leads Croatia in the number of protected areas and ranks first in renewable energy production, include: Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, The millennial history of Sisak, The thermal spa of Topusko, The historical heritage of the Military Frontier and Turkish Wars, Unique, globally significant wooden architecture. Sacred architecture. Rich hunting and fishing grounds. Outstanding gastronomic and wine offerings
The trails once traversed only by wild animals and warriors are now explored by an increasing number of tourists. The legendary figure of the wanderer with a bundle, one who departs because they must and another who arrives to explore the hidden corners, picturesque landscapes, and tranquil silence, is now equipped with cameras, camcorders, guides, and internet technology—yet remains equally astonished and captivated by the unknown land.
Sisak-Moslavina County is a magical place, if only because there are still people who remember what it was like when darkness fell with the sunset and the smell of wood burning in the stove lingered in the air.
Sisak-Moslavina County is a region that stimulates the imagination—playful, mysterious, and rich in experiences, with the oldest shades of yellow adorning the facades of houses and earth beneath which the great Pannonian Sea still seems to sway.
Even if you visit this region only briefly, you will witness a world that may seem ordinary, yet is profoundly moving.
It is hard to find a more beautiful place in Europe to escape from everything.
A footprint is an ancient custom marking the place where a person once stood.
