Topusko
Topusko is a charming town located 70 kilometers south of Zagreb, near the middle course of the Glina River. It is bordered by the slopes of Petrova Gora to the west and Zrinska Gora to the east, sitting at an altitude of 136 meters, surrounded by greenery and beautiful parks.
The town’s parks intertwine with the urban, historical, and balneological essence of Topusko, just as thermal water and peloid mud have defined both the town and its spa in all its dimensions. More than 3,000 years ago, ancient Illyrians settled in this area and discovered invaluable natural thermal springs. This healing water emerges from a depth of 1,500 meters, is volcanic in origin, and its composition and quality have remained unchanged and of excellent quality for the past 200 years.
It is rated as one of the highest-quality thermal waters in Europe and provides excellent results in treatments. Thanks to its healing waters, mud, and archaeological findings from ancient and medieval times, Topusko has frequently been mentioned in scientific literature since the 19th century.
Topusko’s popularity as a bathing destination is evidenced by medals from 1885 and 1886, awarded to the town for having the best bathing facilities. During the mid-19th century, Ban Josip Jelačić and his wife Sofija often stayed in Topusko. Sofija, who suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, was said to have arrived in a carriage and was carried out in a stretcher, only to open the officers’ ball 40 days later.
Today, Topusko boasts a modern Thermal Spa supplied with thermal water from three main and several smaller springs. It is recognized as one of the best in Europe, delivering excellent therapeutic results for injuries and diseases of the locomotor, nervous, and muscular systems.
Specialized treatment methods are applied, catering to all age groups. The combination of traditional treatments and the latest therapies, including laser therapy, magnetotherapy, ultrasound, and other electrotherapy procedures, along with the latest advancements in kinesiotherapy, results in highly positive effects.
The Hotel Top-Terme Topusko is located in a peaceful setting near the Glina River, offering guests access to outdoor pools—five pools of various sizes, depths, and temperatures—along with a sand volleyball court, three tennis courts, a bowling alley, mini-golf, and an outdoor restaurant.
All pools, both indoor and outdoor, are filled with thermal water of volcanic origin, with source temperatures ranging from 68°C to 72°C and pool temperatures between 27°C and 34°C.
