Jasenovac

Almost the entire municipality is located within the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, boasting a rich cultural, natural, and historical heritage.

The Municipality of Jasenovac is classified as a second-category assisted area and is a border municipality situated at the crossroads of water, road, and rail transport routes. Nearly the entire municipality’s area lies within the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, known for its rich cultural, natural, and historical heritage.

Along the northeastern edge of the Jasenovac settlement is the Jasenovac Memorial Site, which includes the Memorial Museum and the Educational Center. Dominating the memorial site is the “Stone Flower” monument dedicated to the victims of fascism during World War II.

Within the municipality of Jasenovac lies the village of Krapje, recognized as a unique rural entity of international significance, featuring numerous examples of traditional folk architecture that are listed in the Register of Cultural Monuments.

The high creative and aesthetic achievements of this architecture were the reason why Krapje was designated as the “Village of Architectural Heritage” during the celebration of European Heritage Days in 1995. Since then, the Day of Architectural Heritage has been traditionally celebrated every year in the month of September.
The goal of the event is to pass on cultural and historical heritage to younger generations.
This year, numerous activities have been organized for all visitors, with a special focus on promoting traditional crafts, traditional fishing, and the gastronomic offerings of Jasenovac Posavina.
