Topusko - welness

Parks are an integral part of the urban, historical, and balneological identity of Topusko, much like the thermal water and peloid mud, which have shaped both the town itself and its renowned spa complex.

Topusko is located 70 kilometers south of Zagreb, near the middle course of the Glina River, bordered by the slopes of Petrova Gora to the west and Zrinjska Gora to the east, at an altitude of 136 meters. The area is rich in greenery and beautiful parks that add to its charm and atmosphere.

Parks intertwine with the urban, historical, and balneological character of Topusko, just as its thermal waters and peloid mud define the town and its spa complex in every aspect. Over 3,000 years ago, the ancient Illyrians settled in this area and discovered its priceless natural thermal springs. This healing water emerges from a depth of 1,500 meters, is of volcanic origin, and has maintained its composition and exceptional quality for the past 200 years. It is considered one of the highest-quality thermal waters in Europe and delivers excellent results in medical treatments.

Thanks to its healing waters, mud, and archaeological findings from antiquity and the Middle Ages, Topusko has been frequently mentioned in scientific literature since the 19th century.

Topusko’s popularity as a bathing destination is evidenced by the medals awarded in 1885 and 1886 for being the best bathing facility, making it a historic meeting point for numerous visitors from across Europe. In the mid-19th century, Ban Josip Jelačić and his wife Sofija often visited Topusko, drawn by the therapeutic benefits of its thermal waters.

Sofija suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, and it is said that she arrived in Topusko carried in a litter, only to open the officers’ ball 40 days later after experiencing the therapeutic benefits of the thermal waters.

Today, Topusko is home to a modern spa complex that utilizes thermal water from three main and several smaller springs, recognized as one of the highest-quality thermal waters in Europe. It delivers excellent results in treating injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal, nervous, and muscular systems. The spa applies specialized treatment methods suitable for all age groups.

Combining traditional therapies with the latest treatments, including laser therapy, magnetotherapy, ultrasound, and other electrotherapy procedures, as well as the latest insights from kinesiotherapy, produces highly positive effects.

The Top-Terme Topusko Hotel is located in a peaceful area near the Glina River. Guests can enjoy outdoor pools – five pools of different sizes, depths, and temperatures – as well as a beach volleyball court, three tennis courts, a bocce court, mini golf, and an open-air restaurant.

All indoor and outdoor pools are filled with thermal water of volcanic origin. The water temperature at the source ranges from 68 to 72°C, while the pool temperatures vary between 27 and 34°C.
